Lightsplit Terms of Service

Welcome to Lightsplit! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Lightsplit application, website (https://lightsplit.com), and related services (collectively, the "Service") provided by Lightsplit ("Company," "we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use the Service.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the Service, you confirm that you are at least 13 years of age (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction to use the Service without parental consent) and agree to comply with these Terms. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

2. Description of Service

Lightsplit is a software application that provides group expense splitting functionality. The Service includes both free features and a premium subscription plan ("Premium Plan") with additional features, as described on our website or within the application.

3. Account Registration

To access certain features of the Service, you may need to create an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration.
  • Maintain the security of your account credentials and promptly notify us of any unauthorized use.
  • Be responsible for all activities that occur under your account.

You may also register or log in using third-party social media services (e.g., Google, Facebook, LINE, X, Telegram). By doing so, you authorize us to access certain information from those services, as outlined in our Privacy Policy.

4. Premium Subscription Plan
4.1 Subscription Terms

Lightsplit offers a Premium Plan that provides enhanced features for a recurring fee. By subscribing to the Premium Plan, you agree to the following:

  • Fees: You will be charged the subscription fee displayed at the time of purchase (plus applicable taxes) on a recurring basis (e.g., monthly or annually) until you cancel.
  • Payment: You authorize us to charge your chosen payment method automatically for each billing cycle. You must provide valid payment information and keep it updated.
  • Cancellation: You may cancel your Premium Plan at any time through your account settings or by contacting us at support@lightsplit.com. Cancellation will take effect at the end of the current billing cycle, and you will retain access to Premium Plan features until then.
  • No Refunds: Unless required by law, subscription fees are non-refundable, even if you cancel mid-cycle or stop using the Premium Plan.
4.2 Changes to Fees

We reserve the right to modify Premium Plan fees at any time. We will notify you of any fee changes at least 30 days in advance via email or within the Service. If you do not agree to the new fees, you may cancel your subscription before the change takes effect.

5. User Conduct

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Violate any applicable laws, regulations, or third-party rights.
  • Engage in fraudulent, abusive, or harmful activities, including distributing malware or attempting to gain unauthorized access to the Service.
  • Reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works of the Service without our permission.
  • Use the Service for commercial purposes (other than as permitted under these Terms) without our prior written consent.
6. Intellectual Property
6.1 Ownership

The Service, including its design, code, content, and trademarks, is owned by Lightsplit or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes, subject to these Terms.

6.2 User Content

Any content you upload or create through the Service ("User Content") remains yours. By uploading User Content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, store, and display it as necessary to provide the Service. You represent that you have the rights to grant this license.

7. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at our discretion, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms or engage in activities harmful to the Service or other users. Upon termination:

  • Your account and access to the Service (including the Premium Plan) will be deactivated.
  • Any outstanding subscription fees remain due, and no refunds will be issued unless required by law.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, for users of our Premium Plan, Lightsplit and its affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including loss of data, profits, or business opportunities. For Premium Plan users, our total liability for any claim related to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid for the Premium Plan in the 3 months preceding the claim. For users of our free service, Lightsplit and its affiliates shall have no liability whatsoever for any damages or claims arising from your use of the Service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Lightsplit, its affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, violation of these Terms, or infringement of third-party rights.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Taiwan, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the courts of Taiwan.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or within the Service at least 30 days before they take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the updated Terms are posted constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
